Export Packaging Guide for Iranian Dates: International Standards

Proper packaging protects product quality during long shipping routes and helps buyers meet retail and import requirements in their destination market. Here’s what international buyers should know about how Iranian dates are packaged for export.

Common Packaging Formats

  • Bulk cartons (5kg-20kg): The standard format for wholesale and food-processing buyers, offering the best price per kilogram.
  • Vacuum-sealed retail pouches (250g-1kg): Used for softer, higher-moisture varieties like Mazafati and Berim, and for retail-ready branding.
  • Premium gift boxes: Common for specialty varieties like Piarom, targeting higher-value retail and gifting segments.

Why Packaging Varies by Variety

Moisture content is the main factor: low-moisture varieties like Zahedi and Piarom can be shipped in simple cartons and stored at room temperature, while high-moisture varieties like Mazafati need vacuum sealing and often refrigerated transport to preserve freshness and prevent spoilage.

Private Label and Custom Branding

For distributors and retailers, private label packaging is available on larger orders — allowing your brand, language, and nutritional labeling to appear on the final product sold in your market.

Export Documentation That Accompanies Packaging

Each shipment is supported by a Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Certificate of Origin, and Phytosanitary Certificate. See our HS Code & Customs Documents page for the complete list required for customs clearance.
